Everything you need to know about making fresh food with Nojya.

Getting Started (The Basics)
Is homemade food actually safe for my cat?

Yes, when prepared correctly! Safety comes down to two things: ingredient handling and nutritional balance. We handle the balance with our science-backed formula. You handle the safety by using human-grade meats and following standard kitchen hygiene.

Can I cook the meat? I'm scared of raw.

Absolutely! We call this the "Gentle Cook" method.

1. Cook your meat gently (steamed or lightly pan-fried) until it hits 165°F.
2. Let it cool completely. (Crucial to save vitamins!)

Important: Cooked meat loses volume, so use a heaping scoop (40g) of Nojya.

Is this cheaper than frozen raw food?

That's a resounding, yes! Avoiding the "pet tax" means Nojya + Store Meat is often 30-40% less than frozen delivery. Plus, you control the quality.

Can I just sprinkle this on kibble?

No. Nojya is powerful stuff! It makes plain meat a complete meal. It is not a topper for balanced food (kibble/canned) and could cause vitamin excess.

Meat & Ingredients
Can I use any meat?
  • We recommend lean meats (10% fat or less).
    Best Starters:
Chicken Thighs, Ground Turkey (93/7), Lean Beef (90/10).
  • Texture Tip: Very lean cuts (Breast) can be dry—add water!
  • Avoid: Fatty cuts (80/20) unless cooked/drained.
Can I use ground meat from the supermarket?

Yes! Ensure it is plain (no spices) and check the fat content. We recommend 90% lean or leaner.

Help! I bought meat that is too fatty (like 80/20). Can I still use it?

Yes, but you'll need to dilute it! Our formula is engineered for lean meat, and we target a maximum of 10% fat content (like 90/10 or 97/3). If you picked up meat with 20% fat (like 80/20), don't worry—it's an easy fix! You have two simple, foolproof options to dial the fat back down to a safe range:

🔪 The Simplest Method: The Blending Fix (Recommended for Raw)

This method instantly solves the problem by balancing the fat content.

Simply mix your $80/20$ meat with an equal amount of super-lean meat (like 99% fat-free ground turkey, skinless chicken breast, or pork loin).

The Quick Formula:

1 lb (80/20 Meat) + 1 lb (99/1 Lean Meat) = 2 lbs of Perfectly Balanced Mix (Approx. 90/10).

Then, just add your Nojya scoop(s) as usual based on the total 2 lbs of meat.

🍳 The Cook & Drain Method (Recommended for Cooked)

This is ideal if you are cooking the meat anyway, as the process removes the excess fat naturally.

Gently cook the fatty 80/20 meat. Once the fat renders out (turns into liquid grease), drain and discard the liquid fat completely before adding the Nojya powder. This action naturally lowers the fat content back to our recommended 10% range.

Is supermarket meat safe for cats?

Yes, human-grade meat is safe when handled correctly. Cats have acidic stomachs designed for raw meat. If worried, use the "Gentle Cook" method!

Do I need to add liver or other organs?

No. Nojya is an "All-in-One" premix containing necessary vitamins found in organs. You simply add muscle meat and water.

I see "Ash" on your ingredient chart. Is that... ash?

Great eye! "Ash" is the technical term for minerals like calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. It’s the good stuff that builds strong bones!

Does this include Taurine?

Yes! Taurine is non-negotiable. Our formula includes ample Taurine, Calcium, Vitamin E, B-Complex, and trace minerals.

Preparation & Process
How do I handle raw meat safely?

Treat it like making tacos! Wash hands, wash bowl with hot soapy water, don't leave meat out on the counter.

Why are amounts different for Raw (33g) vs Cooked (40g)?

Science time! Cooking causes moisture loss and reduces heat-sensitive nutrients like Choline. We increased serving to 40g to top those back up.

Why do I need to add water?

Cats have a low thirst drive. Adding water mimics the hydration of fresh prey and supports urinary health.

Do I need a meat grinder?

Not necessarily! If using the Cooked Method or pre-ground meat, no. A grinder is great for fresh chunks though.

Suitability
Why is Nojya formulated only for Adult Maintenance?

We believe in precision, not approximation. While "All Life Stages" foods are convenient, balancing nutrients for a rapidly growing kitten and a mature adult cat using one formula is incredibly difficult. We chose to focus on Adult Maintenance because it allows us to create the most precise and optimally balanced nutrient profile possible for the vast majority of your cat’s life.

Young kittens have drastically different, intense demands for minerals like calcium and phosphorus for rapid bone growth. Rather than compromise our formula to meet the "highest common denominator", we committed to the optimal daily maintenance needs of a healthy adult cat. In such cases, this is where we would prefer science over simplicity.

Is Nojya suitable for kittens?

No. Nojya is currently formulated for Adult Maintenance only (>12 months). Kittens require different nutrient ratios.
